Rain on the Road

by Mariah Bowers
(Iluka, NSW, Australia)

Do you remember sitting outside on the balcony, in the middle of storm, electrified by the lightning and thunder? The smell of rain on the road brings back the memories of all the floods and storms that didn't really scare me, as a young kid.

But the fun always ended with a mother telling you come inside, because you could get struck by lightning, etc, etc. Yet the smell of rain on the road doesn't send me scurrying under the nearest umbrella. No, it sends me on a walk down memory lane.
