Story Openers Competition: Hook the Reader!
To celebrate our brand new Twitter account at @cwritingn, we're running a special contest on Twitter about story beginnings.
The beginning of a story is where the reader (or publisher!) decides whether to keep reading.
Can you hook the reader in the first pages of your story? What about in the first few words? Can you write a story beginning so intriguing that the reader can't resist reading on?
Tweet your irresistible story opener, and you could win a $30 prize!
How to participate:
Sample entries by some well-known writers:
Jane Austin: @cwritingn #storyhooks It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife
Edgar Allen Poe: I was sick -- sick unto death with that long agony; and when they at length unbound me, and I was permitted to sit @cwritingn #storyhooks
F. Scott Fitzgerald: @cwritingn #storyhooks In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind
