Titles

Ever been stuck for a title? Ever been stuck for a story idea? A fantastic way of finding titles and ideas for stories is by keeping a book of titles you like, browsing through photos and thinking of random capturing titles.

I keep a little book where I enter things I think might make a good title. 'The Wolf Of Lariat Pass' is a random pick from my book. (It's nonexistent. I just made it up. Don't steal it!) I instantly imagine a story set in 1800s, early America, wild west-type book. A wolf who has become notorious for snatching away sheep and disappearing into Lariat Pass, his kingdom, a place the locals fear... Until one day a cowboy sets out to conquer this terror of the west... Hey, it may be a hammered idea, but it is evolving into a story already.

Coming up with little interesting phrases are amazing ways of finding titles. They are also good prompts.

Song Titles and Lyrics Make Good Book Titles NEW
by: Cabbie Glass

Listen to music in your genre and make note of the titles. As a fantasy writer, I listen to lots of medieval and Celtic fantasy music. Songwriters and composers of fantasy music borrow liberally from novels, historical fiction, and mythology. Why shouldn't we adopt the same policy?
