Writing Prompts Competition

The winner of our Writing Prompts competition is Robyn Coutts.

Although the competition is over, you're still invited to visit our Facebook page and post your prompts to inspire other writers.

The most inspiring prompt will win a $100 prize!

Visit our Facebook page to vote for the most inspiring entries. Click on the "like" button and leave a comment to vote. the entry with the most votes will be the winner.

Tip: Ask your Facebook friends, Twitter friends, and others to vote for your prompts. You're allowed to campaign for yourself! It's part of the fun.

Examples of prompts:

  • "Your character falls in love with her father-in-law. Write the story."
  • "Write a poem that contains the following three words: 'silky,' 'claw,' and 'alimony.'"
  • "Here's the beginning a story. What comes next?: 'I never suspected he was the killer until I saw what was in his medicine cabinet.'"
  • You can even post prompts that are just a picture.

There are no format rules for the prompts in this contest, as long as they're your own original work. 


How to participate:

1) Visit our Facebook page and click "like" to friend us. Post your original writing prompt on our Facebook Wall by February 4th. (Don't have a Facebook account? Use this e-mail form to send us your submission.)

2) Vote for the most inspiring prompts by clicking to "like" them and adding a comment. The prompt with the most votes by February 11 will be the winner. (If there's a tie, we'll choose between the tied entries). 


Contest rules

1) There is no cost for entering the contest.

2) You can enter the contest as many times as you want.

3) Each entry must be your own original work and must not be previously published. We may republish your entry, crediting your name as author.

4) The last day to enter is February 4th. The last date to vote is February 11. The winner will be announced here and on Facebook by February 22.

5) The prize of $100 (U.S. dollars) will be paid by PayPal or Amazon.com vouchers, according to the winner's choice. If the winner is a U.S. resident, he or she may request payment by check.
